kaitak, Centre for Research and Development, was established by the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University in 2013. The institution situates in a 80-year-old historical building, which is horizontal and expanded, contrasting to the omnipresent high-rise constructions in Hong Kong.
Constituted by four different programmes/branches, kaitak organises diversified programmes that aim to support academic research and community projects for the development of visual arts in and around Hong Kong.
The logo responds to the composition of the institution, as well as the physical present of the historical building. The geometric forms employed in the logo is in wide variation, yet they all united on the same invisible horizontal line. It is constructed by five components, which are derived from the characters of ‘kaitak’ typographically.
