our name
mmmmor, is a short form of ‘miimiimormor’.
mii-mii-mor-mor is a Hong Kongese idiom, describes someone being slow or dilly-dally. We believe that creating delicate work takes time. Slowness, or Langsamkeit in German, and the art of pausing can be powerful assets in today's fast-paced world.
who we are
mmmmor studio based in Düsseldorf and Hong Kong, was established by artists Lai Ping So and Wai Lun Hsu in 2013. It operates as a collective for visual art, editorial design, art education, and independent publishing. Central to their practice are artists' books, which serve as both their primary form of expression and a tool for artistic research. Collaboratively, they have published numerous artists' books including ‘At the Time When’ (2024), ‘Between Faces, Stories and Power’ (2023), ‘ flo-o-o’ (2023), ‘The State of Being Vanished (Evanescence) No. 001–003’ (2021), ‘Vanishing No. 002’ (2021), ‘Vanishing No. 003 (Endless) (2021), ‘dok dat dap dap’ (2021), ‘The Rise of Modern China’ (2018/2023). Their works have been exhibited in various institutions and museums.

Lai Ping So is a visual artist, editorial designer, and lecturer whose work centers on artists’ books, writing systems, and sound art. She explores narrative forms within the book as a medium, combining printmaking, drawing, and typography. Her practice examines how visual scripts and forms convey text and abstract thought, while her research focuses on the interplay between visual and auditory perception, exploring how sound can be depicted through visual imagery and, conversely, how visual elements can activate sonic experiences. She holds an MA in Gutenberg Intermedia from Hochschule Mainz, Germany, and a BA in Visual Arts from the Academy of Visual Arts HKBU. Lai Ping’s website ︎︎
Wai Lun Hsu is a visual artist whose practice centers on artistic research, photographic and archival imagery, sound art, and artists' books. With an MA in Artistic Research from the Royal Academy of Art The Hague and a BA in Visual Arts from the Academy of Visual Arts HKBU, Hsu's work investigates institutional archives to understand the formation of power structures within our communities. His artistic approach navigates the intersection between the present and specific historical moments, examining how these preserved records, charged with past authority, serve as tools to re-examine contemporary power structures.
